Ok, not really. But for those of you who've been following me on Facebook and/or Twitter and seen my random space lizard posts, next week , you'll get to see (or more like hear) what that's all about.

In 2008, I was cast as Nopileos the Teladi (in other words, space lizard) in Helge Kautz's space synth metal opera project voXager. VoXager is based on the story of Egosoft's game series X, as well as on Kautz's book series about the same characters. My character is a spunky, adventurous, highly intelligent teenage space lizard who lives in a society where all that matters is making a profit. She ends up on a fantastic interplanetary adventure where she meets the Earth astronaut Elena Kho (played by LadyLau), Elena's best friend Captain Kyle Brennan (played by Nio Velvet), the villainous Patriarch (Daniel Junglass) and his envoy, Cho (Helge Kautz), and many others (including Henny von Buddenbrock, Sebas Honing, and Sven Putze).

Playing someone significantly younger than I am who is from a different planet and has a reptilian body has certainly been an interesting experience. In preparing for this role, I had to do a lot of thinking back to how I reacted to various situations when I was 17, while trying to figure out how having my own interplanetary space ship might have factored into my late-90s/early 2000s youth. There's also a scene where I play a whole group of beings who are thousands of years old and my teenage character in my same song. While doing an age shift of several thousand years that quickly is not without its challenges, it was something I had a lot of fun with.

Preparing a role, for me, also means trying to learn to think like the character, even if it just involves singing a few songs in a recording studio. When reading Helge's novel, I learned that the inhabitants of my character's planet used the word "egg" in various expressions when they curse, "Egg salad!" being the most common one. So for awhile, whenever something happened that would make me swear, instead of wanting to use the usual curse words, I'd be very tempted to just yell, "EGG SALAD!" Another time, I was held up by a man with a knife on my way home. When I got home, one of the first things I thought was, "Nopileos would have never put up with that. She would have put him in his place."

As I write this, I am listening to the final mix. I've been asked to keep it to myself for the moment, for obvious reasons, but it sounds great and I can't wait until you all can hear it, too.  On November 15, you'll have that chance!

I'd also like to thank everyone who took part in this with me: Helge, Sven, Laura, Nio, Daniel, Sebas, Henny, Diana, Lars, Stephan and all of you at Egosoft. Some of you, I don't know outside of the Internet, and I hope that will change someday. It's been a very exciting five years with you all. (And mystery narrator who sounds suspiciously like Shemar Moore, I wanna know who you are. ;) )
