It's a Songweaver!

I have had the priviledge of bringing yet another talented performer into the studio, and that would be the passionate, sexy, earthy, and sensual voice of Ecuadorian blues/jazz singer Ivonneth Rosero! Ivonneth sings the role of the mysterious, moody goddess of music, sex, creativity and fertility: The Songweaver.

I got to know Ivonneth during my time with Camaleon Jazz Combo. I was impressed with her unique improvisational style and incredible vocal creativity. I cannot remember if she was my inspiration for the character of the Songweaver or if I created the character and realized Ivonneth would provide me with an interesting interpretation of the Songweaver. It was probably a combination of the two. Whatever it was, she has now helped me create what I think will be one of the more memorable Legend's Ghost characters.

He tenido el privilegio de traer aun otra artista talentosa al estudio, y esa sería la voz passionante, sexy, elemento-tierra, y sensual de la cantante ecuatoriana de jazz y blues Ivonneth Rosero. Ivonneth canta el papel de la diosa mysteriosa y tempramental de música, sexo, creatividad y fertilidad: La Songweaver.

Llegué a conocer a Ivonneth durante mi tiempo con Camaleon Jazz Combo. Quedé muy bien impresionada por su estilo única de improvisar y su increíble creatividad vocal. No recuerdo si ella era mi inspiración para el personaje de la Songweaver o si yo creó a la personaje y me dió cuenta que Ivonneth podría darme una interpretación interesante de la Songweaver. Probablemente era una combinación de los dos. Cualquier cosa que era, ella me ha ayudado en inventar lo que pienso quien va a ser uno de los personajes mas memorables de Legend's Ghost.

Continuum: A Flight Through Time and Space

After 6 years of trying to make Legend's Ghost happen, I finally get to announce that there has been a new release: my new 3-song EP, Continuum: A Flight Through Time and Space! The EP has one song from each upcoming album, plus a bonus track. It features Sergey Proshunin on bass and myself on vocals. It comes in a full-color cd-folder.

You can order online or pick up a copy at any Legend's Ghost concert. The CD is $6, but I have added a $1.50 surcharge for any shipping outside of Ecuador. If you live in Ecuador, you do not have to pay that surcharge.

Legend's Ghost in Fiesta de la Música Quito!

I realize I have not updated in awhile, and there is a very good reason for that: I have been going completely and utterly mad trying to get ready for a big show as part of Quito's annual Fiesta de la Música! This will be Legend's Ghost's big debut, and if you care to witness it, come to Ananké Bar in La Mariscal at 8 P.M. on June 26, 2010!

Fiesta de la Música is an annual festival sponsored by Alianza Francesa in Quito, Ecuador. Bands play all over the city of Quito, and it's basically a city-wide party with a lot of great music catered to every taste imaginable.

Ananké Bar is one of my favorite spots in Quito, with it's artistic-gothic decor, red walls, low tables with cushion chairs, and amazing canelazo.

Besides hearing a great live performance, you will also have the opportunity to buy the latest Legend's Ghost release: Continuum: A Flight Through Time and Space, an EP featuring myself and bassist Sergey Proshunin.

And the mystery singer is...Oganalp Canatan of Dreamtone!

I can't believe none of you guessed him! I guess you just weren't used to hearing him sing in Turkish!

Today, I finally get to reveal to you that the mysterious, haunting, otherworldly vocals you heard in the sample are provided by none other than Dreamtone's Oganalp Canatan.

Unlike many of you, I had never heard of Oganalp or his band Dreamtone before he appeared on Korsair's song Prototype X. I was impressed by the professional quality of Oganalp's voice, so I began messaging him on myspace, hoping I would eventually get a chance to work with him again, either on Legend's Ghost or on another project. But I honestly wasn't sure when that would be, since I thought I had all of the singers I needed for awhile.

However, I had been thinking of adding some mysterious, otherworldly vocals to one of the songs that was originally supposed to be instrumental. I wanted someone who could sing in a foreign language that most native English speakers wouldn't immediately recognize. I figured that when I found the right person, he could sing in his native language. One day, I had an epiphany and realized Oganalp would be perfect for the part. So I sent him the lyrics in English and asked him to translate them into Turkish. The result exceeded my expectations, and I hope to post a larger portion of Oganalp's work on the song later this week. (It will not be the full song, because I want some things to be a surprise when Gatekeepers finally is released! And it will be this year!)

I am looking for a female guitarist who can do a solo on one of the songs on the upcoming Gatekeepers album.

The Gatekeepers album deals with the creative process as represented by sexual experiences. One of the central characters, the mysterious Songweaver, will be represented by both a singer (she's already been chosen, sorry singers!) and a guitarist. Because the Songweaver represents the embodiment of feminine energy, she needs to be portrayed by a woman, and the guitarist who does this solo is also an actor in the story.

So are a lady who thinks she can rock my socks off and make me melt, then send an mp3 of yourself playing to me at legendsghost@gmail.com.

Estoy buscando una guitarrista quien puede tocar un solo en uno de las canciónes de mi album Gatekeepers.

Gatekeepers se trata del proceso creativo representado por experiencias sexuales. Uno de los personajes centrales, la misteriosa Songweaver, se va a ser representada por una cantante (ya tengo uno. Lo siento, cantantes!) y una guitarrista. Por la razon que la Songweaver es la representación fisica de energía feminina, es necesario que ella sea actuada por una mujer, y la guitarrista en ésta canción no solo es músico, sino actor tambien.

Mystery Vocalist 6

1. The vocalist is singing in his native language. But I will not tell you what language that is. It would make it too easy!

Belgian Guitarist Kristof Elst performs on Legend's Ghost

There is a new song up, and a new guest artist to announce! That guest artist would be Kristof Elst of the project Dragons and Lilies, formerly of Transentience.

Although I have never met Kristof personally, I became acquainted with his musical style through his former Transentience bandmate (and Legend's Ghost guest soloist) Joop de Rooij. When he added me on facebook in late 2009 and I needed another guitarist, I was very happy to ask him to play some songs on Legend's Ghost.

Gig Canceled

It is with a heavy heart that I announce that the Legend's Ghost gig has been canceled.

Doing this show meant more than just about anything to me. I frantically searched myspace for musicians to share the moment with me. I went to some rehearsals feeling as if I would faint, because I was trying to recover from an allergic reaction but feared the medications I had for it would make me too tired to rehearse and eventually do the show, or worse, cause damage to my voice. I canceled other engagements to make it to rehearsals. One person even turned down another gig to play mine. So as you can imagine, this show meant the world to me. I was as excited about it as most other women would be about their wedding day.

But due to the illness of a major player and my inability to replace this person, we eventually realized it just wasn't going to happen. Having to replace someone 5 days before the show is rather difficult, to say the least. So after a discussion with another musician who knows the Quito music scene better than I do, and whose judgment I trust, I decided to postpone the show. So far, we do not have another gig lined up. I hope that will change soon. After 6 years of working on this project, I want nothing more than to finally play my music on stage.

First Legend's Ghost show at El Pobre Diablo!

Tonight, after much freaking out and maniacally searching myspace for musicians to save the day after two people who had said they would play this show dropped out, I finally get to announce this:

Internationally-recorded rock opera project live in concert for the first time! Legend's Ghost deals with themes of ancient mysteries, ghosts of stories never told, and sex as a metaphor for the creative process.

Includes songs from upcoming albums The Suicidal Immortal and Gatekeepers...and a 70s classic revisited with... a crazy bass solo!

Proyecto grabado internacionalmente en vivo por la primera vez! Canciones de Legend's Ghost se tratan de mysterios ancianos, fantasmas de historias nunca contados, y el sexo como metáfora para el proceso creativo.

Incluye canciones de los dos albums en progreso: The Suicidal Immortal y Gatekeepers...y un clasico de los 70 revisitado con un loco solo de bajo!

Jazz/Blues Bassist Sergey Proshunin to play on Legend's Ghost album

Today, I get to announce another very talented Legend's Ghost artist: Russian jazz/blues bassist Sergey Proshunin.

In November 2008, I went to a Camaleon Jazz Combo concert. There was this Russian guy onstage playing these crazy bass solos and looking like he was having the time of his life. I thought to myself, "I don't care if he is from a completely different musical background from me, and I don't care if he has never even heard of my style of music. I've got to have him on my album." Unfortunately, I was too shy to talk to him that night.

All was not lost, though. In February, a mutual friend of mine and Sergey's told me Sergey was playing a solo show at another bar and asked if I wanted to come along. I readily agreed, hoping to have a chance to meet him and ask him to play on Legend's Ghost. I did have that chance, but not before my friend dared me to go onstage with Sergey and improvise with him. After many protests on my part, my friend convinced me to take the dare. Sergey was playing a Herbie Hancock song I'd never heard before, but I still somehow managed to figure out something to improvise.

I told Sergey during one of the breaks in the performance that I admired his playing style and needed another bassist for my project. He said he would think about it. About an hour later, he told me he would do it.

Today, I am showing you the results of that collaboration in a brand new song called Continuum: A Flight Through Time and Space. I wrote the song especially for Sergey, since I thought it would not be proper to have such a talented soloist and no song to really show him off.

Hoy, tengo el placer de annunciar otro invitado de Legend's Ghost: el bajista ruso de jazz y blues, Sergey Proshunin.

En noviembre de 2008, fuí a un concierto de Camaleon Jazz Combo. Habia en el escenario un ruso que tocaba algunos solos muy locos y parecía que estaba divertiendose mucho. Pensé: "No me importa si este tipo toca musica muy diferente a lo mio, y no me importa si él nunca ha escuchado de mi tipo de musica, tengo que tenerlo en Legend's Ghost." Desfortunadamente, yo sentía demasiado timida para hablar con él.

No estaba todo perdido. En febrero, un amigo mutual de nosotros me dijo que Sergey iba a tocar una tocada como solista en un bar y me pregunté si yo quería venir con él. Lo le dijo que claro que sí, porque esperaba tener el chance de preguntar a Sergey si quería tocar en Legend's Ghost. Yo sí tenía esa chance, pero no antes de que mi amigo me dijo que yo debería ir en el escenario e improvisar con Sergey. Despues de mucho protesto en mi parte, mi amigo me convencio ir en el escenario. Sergey estaba tocando una cancion de Herbie Hancock que yo no habia escuchado antes, pero por alguna manera, podia improvisar con él.

Durante uno de los intermedios en la tocada, yo le dijo a Sergey me encantaba su estilo de tocar, y que necesitaba otro bajista para mi proyecto. Me dijo que iba a pensar en eso. Una hora despues, me dijo que iba a hacerlo.

Hoy, estoy mostrandoles los resultados de esa colaboracion con una cancion nueva titulado "Continuum: Un vuelo en el espacio y el tiempo." Escribí esta cancion especialmente para Sergey, porque pensé que no sería correcto tener un solista con tanto talento y no tener una cancion que muestra su talento.
